Frequently Asked Questions:

What Is a Private Coach?
A private coach is a partner who is most interested in one thing: your success. A private coach is neither a therapist nor a consultant — a coach provides an ongoing, supportive relationship that brings out your best in both your business and personal life. A coach will help you gain insight and clarity. By having this unique partnership focused on you and your goals, you stay on track as you implement them. A coach is an objective committed partner who observes you, supports you, and identifies ways to improve your performance — giving you the edge to take yourself from ordinary to extraordinary. Are you ready?

How does coaching differ from consulting?
Coaching can be considered a form of consulting. However, consulting is often information and expertise based. For example, you might hire a consultant to help your business with a specific problem. In which case, you’d expect your consultant to have knowledge and experience in that particular area. Coaches on the other hand may or may not have a background or experience in your field. A coach is certainly a specialist, an expert on helping you develop all areas of your business and/or personal life. Unlike many consultants who propose a solution and leave you to implement it, the coach stays with you to support you in the integration, the implementing of changes, using new skills, and goals to make sure they really happen. This is one reason why coaching is so effective--it is one thing to have the information and quite another to actually use it for the identified results.

How does coaching differ from therapy?
Coaching is not therapy. Coaches don't work on past-based issues or traumas. Coaches are not psychologists or psychotherapists. Coaches focus on the present and the client’s goals for the future.

Why do people hire a coach?

The International Coach Federation (ICF) stated it well.

“People hire a coach because

  • They want more.
  • They want to grow.
  • They want it easier.

It's as simple as that. Coaches help a client get all three. Quickly. ”

What are some of the benefits of hiring a coach?
You start taking more effective and focused actions immediately.
You stop putting up with petty annoyances.
You create momentum so it's easier to get results.
You set better goals that are based on what you really want.
You have more time and energy.

Do coaches work on personal goals or business/professional goals?
Both. The coach is the only professional trained to work with all aspects of your life. Some clients prefer to spend more time focusing on their business goals, while others may want to focus on personal goals.

Shouldn’t I be able to reach my goals on my own?
We’ve been taught that "hard work and doing it on your own" are the keys to finding life, success, money, or happiness. Most people believe they must sacrifice something to attain what they want. Some people sacrifice their health, their time to enjoy life, or their relationships. This type of sacrifice is actually optional. Consider you may not have to sacrifice anything to get what you want. You may need to change a few things, true, but clients find they have more time with their families and friends, more money, more opportunity, and are more successful at work when they work with a coach. The best in most professionals use coaches. Why shouldn’t you have this same advantage?

Why would people who are already successful hire a coach?
The best of the best in most professions all have coaches that they work with to enhance and expedite their success. Athletes, performers, CEO’s and presidents know that they can’t do it alone. They know they need a trained professional or even a team of experts to help them determine the best direction and to provide objective support and feedback. Without this, it is almost impossible to achieve excellence. No athlete would consider going to the Olympics without the support of a coach. The extra edge the coach provides makes all the difference. It makes sense. It is a smart choice.

What are some of the areas that that clients work on with their coach?

  • Money/Finance
  • Make and keep more money
  • Eliminate/Reduce Debt
  • Career/ Profession
  • Leadership
  • Fun/ Adventure
  • Business Start up, Growth, Profitability

Can a dependency be created between coach and client?
No. Every GMG coach believes that no one ‘needs’ a coach and everyone can benefit from a coach. Coaches do make a difference. A client may work with a coach in order to maximize an opportunity or accelerate their personal growth, yet not be dependent on the coach. Anyone who has big goals can benefit from the structure, advice, and support of a coach. Coaches work with people who are healthy and successful on their own. Coaches do not resolve therapy issues.

Can I hire a coach for a short-term, special project?
Yes. Some clients hire a coach to help them achieve a specific objective or project.
